R.L.H. Photography can photograph various styles of portraits in your choice of outdoor location or in your own home utilising natural light OR mobile studio lighting. Such as Newborn, Children, Family, Maternity, and Engagement Portraits.

Think about the style of photographs you want. Do you want studio-style shots? Perhaps you're looking for candid or photojournalistic style photographs?

In-home studio style or candid session

You can have a studio style portrait session right in your own home, utilising my mobile lighting set-up. A studio set-up is great for a more classic style of image. A studio session is a particularly good choice for newborns, young babies and maternity portraits. I set up a backdrop stand, and lighting so space allowance needs to be taken into consideration when booking this style of portrait. I like to take my time with this classic style of session. Studio-style images will always be a timeless addition to your home. If you would like a candid session without the use of studio lighting, good natural light is imperative. So if you would like to book a candid home session, consider the amount of natural light from windows and doors that’s available. If your home is quite dark, maybe an outdoors location would be a better choice. Of course there is always your own backyard to use for your portrait session!

Location session

An outdoor session also makes for great portraits. Your session can take place in the outdoor location of your choice, such as the beach or your favourite park. Another great idea is to step out of the norm and to photograph somewhere different – a run down farm or the dirt track behind your house. They add an extra element to your images that can make them more than your average family portrait. The best time for an outdoor session is early to mid-morning and mid to late afternoon. These are the times when the light is best, as the middle of the day sun is too harsh and will cast strong shadows. A shaded area is also preferable and several desirable locations can be suggested.

There is no time limit on any of my portrait sessions. I will keep snapping away as long as everyone is happy!

Shoot information Child/Family Portraits

Have your child/ren rested before the session. Pick a time of the day that best suits your child's mood - morning tends to suit little ones. For location shoots, bring something for your child to eat or drink. A favourite toy can calm an upset child. If your child is ill it is best to re-schedule your portrait session.

Choose simple, bright coloured clothing. Please try to avoid logos or characters on clothing - they tend to become outdated. Newborns photograph best in the 'buff'! Try to avoid stripes, checks etc for family group photos. A pair of blue jeans and a white top is a good choice, especially when the whole family wears them. Bring a couple of changes of clothes or a favourite dress/outfit for your child. A hairbrush and face wipes are also a good idea.

Most of all, remember to ...have fun!
